These are the new, beautiful covers for the Truthwitch series!

Synopsis

In a continent on the edge of war, two witches hold its fate in their hands.

Young witches Safiya and Iseult have a habit of finding trouble. After clashing with a powerful Guildmaster and his ruthless Bloodwitch bodyguard, the friends are forced to flee their home.

Safi must avoid capture at all costs as she’s a rare Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lies. Many would kill for her magic, so Safi must keep it hidden – lest she be used in the struggle between empires. And Iseult’s true powers are hidden even from herself.

In a chance encounter at Court, Safi meets Prince Merik and makes him a reluctant ally. However, his help may not slow down the Bloodwitch now hot on the girls’ heels. All Safi and Iseult want is their freedom, but danger lies ahead. With war coming, treaties breaking and a magical contagion sweeping the land, the friends will have to fight emperors and mercenaries alike. For some will stop at nothing to get their hands on a Truthwitch

First Thoughts ✨

This book for me, started off really strong! I loved the action and hustle and bustle at the beginning. The pros was fantastic – it just flowed so well with the story and characters. I liked that we were introduced to both of the characters from the get-go, this gave the book a really quick and snappy feel to it. The conflict the characters are thrust into at the start was also great!

Story 📚

Ah, I loved the premise of the story. It did very much feel like the very first book of a fantasy series, which I didn’t mind. There was a lot of set-up, but at the same time, I think Susan did a great job of adding action to the world building. Keeping on topic of world building, I think it was done so well! It never felt dry, or boring. I loved learning about the different typed of witches and the continent that they resided on.

Characters 👪

Safi – Ah, I loved Safi so much! You guys know I’m a sucker for bad-ass, sassy main characters and Safi ticked all of those boxes! Even though her witchery didn’t manifest physically, she carried herself with such power and confidence – that she felt like all the other element-wielding witches. She had a presence and it really showed off her aristocrat up-bringing.

Iseult – I miss-pronounced Iseults name till the very end when I decided to search ‘How to pronounce Iseult. I do hope, I say it right now! Iseult was exactly the buffer character we needed for Safi. She was the brain and the calm while Safi was the charm and the storm. I loved Iseult, but to me she very much fell in the shadow of Safi, in this book.

Merik – Ah, another character I adored. I can’t really talk bad about Merik as he felt like a great character. I loved his quality of, I must help my kingdom and throughout the book, that’s what he did. He fought for his kingdom with everything he had – be there many complications along the way, but he never gave up.

Last Thoughts 💭

The end of Truthwitch was EXPLOSIVE to say the least. It was everything I wanted from the prior build up. The action and the sudden character moments really highlighted the book for me. It was a really strong ending, pushing me to want to read the second book.

My Rating – ⭐⭐⭐⭐
